Fireplaces & The Various Kinds of Fuel Sources
For sure, fireplaces have their unique place in history as well as in our modern society. Traditionally, they are the best source of heating and the place for cooking. Nowadays, they have tremendous aesthetic contribution to our interior decoration as well as add value to our property. More often, a fireplace is located at the center of the building or in homes for the hearth does not only warm but makes a wonderful area to gather around especially on those cold winter days. Notwithstanding, a fireplace is still an efficient heating solution for your home.
In choosing a fireplace, the more modern models have various designs and different kinds of fuel source. These can either use the traditional wood, gas or electric sources. The wooden burning fireplace is the most traditional of all fireplaces. These can be in fireboxes or small pits. These usually require a chimney or any kind of exhaust system for the smoke to go through rather than entering your room. Chimney fireplace even those no longer usable are kept untouched by some renovators because they add ambiance to the space where they can be found.
Wood was the first fuel used in fireplaces followed by peat, which became popular because it burns longer and far more efficiently. By the onset of the industrial revolution, coal fires became the trend. Naturally, when electricity was invented so was the electric fireplace. It was actually in the 1930s that electric current was commonly used to fuel fireplaces. Fairly recently, bio fuels and propane were invariably used. Through the years, we see the trend move to more efficient burning minus the smoke and the soot which are difficult to clean and maintain. Gas fireplaces are very trendy because you get to enjoy the fire with no need for the backbreaking work of chopping logs. Gas logs come in a very quaint design looking like actual logs.
A fireplace may use several or a few components depending on its design. There are very chic designs that fit very well into any kind of modern interior décor. You will be amazed by the innovations put into very stylish fireplaces, a far cry from its common masonry type. The latter is made from bricks or stone, while some are built from reinforced concrete. This particular design is not very ideal because concrete and metal reinforcements can expand differently, which is why you would often see chimneys laden with cracks.
Your manufactured fireplace are prefabricated upon purchase so they are very in demand especially in new homes. This has one metal firebox which is linked to a length pipe made of metal, which acts as a chimney. Because it is metal, it can be prone to sparking, which is why spark arrestors are often in place. The most common fuel for this type of design is natural gas, propane or wood.
Some new fireplaces are duct-free and fueled by an LPG, gel or eve natural gas. This kind are relatively simple to install and do not actually use similar BTUs like many fireplaces. There are several countries regulating the installation of this particular fireplace. These duct-free fireplaces have a 100% burn efficiency, but they are known to effect a lot of moisture.
Another kind of fireplace is the bio-ethanol or the flue-less fire. It is called such because it does not need any type of chimney or ventilation. This kind is also very efficient since the heat produced effectively warms the room. The best thing is its fuel is made from starches, sugars or any rot crop. Moreover, there are no soot to clean, except for water and carbon dioxide.
